Long exposure - keeping the shutter open for a long time, this might mean something as short as 1/5th of a second, it could mean a whole 30 seconds! It's a range. And we'll be exploring the effects of this range in this session.
We'll be looking at how to correctly expose your image, the math that's involved if you're that way inclined, and what sort of shutter speed might work in what scenarios.

This meet-up will explore how we can take beautiful portraits using natural light and backgrounds. We will explore how to recognise flattering light and how to manipulate it whilst shooting in a less controlled environment than a studio. We will explore how we can work collaboratively with our subject to achieve a portrait that captures their personality and style. We will also look at posing and setting your subject at ease. Technical learning points will include accurate focusing and metering for skin tones.

Street art is a unique and colorful art form and can be found in all kinds of nooks and crannies in cities all over the world. Capturing art in the streets in photographs can be tricky because these urban art pieces are in public spaces, that are busy and usually filled with people and traffic.We will visit a number of sites in and around Sheffield city centre and as well as documenting the artworks we will explore how the pieces exist within their immediate environments. In this class we will be using off camera flash to balance with the natural light available to us, exploring how to create different looks within the image in how to balance the light. We'll be looking at how to set up lighting safely outdoors, and how to capture our subjects for specific looks in mind.

In this three-hour beginner's class we will explore all the woodland has to offer us . You will learn how to move past the auto function of your camera and start exploring some of the other settings. It will give you the basic principles to be able to explore more of what your camera is capable of and take your photography to the next level. We will discuss how controlling aperture, shutter speed and ISO can give you more creative control And how balancing the exposure triangle can help you achieve the perfect exposure for any situation. We will also look at composition and how we can frame our subject to draw the viewer in.

This meetup goes over some basic dos and don'ts for posing and looks at issues to do with shooting in daylight for the best results. Included are: shooting different body types, men, women and shooting with strong sunlight and shooting in shade, and designing your background (composition). On this meet,up you are encouraged to bring along family or friends as models.
You will preferably need a normal, 85mm or longer lens, or a zoom. If you have a wide-angle this can also be used as we will be also looking at environmental portraits.
This is the perfect meetup to learn how to take the perfect portraits of family and friends.

In this class we will be photographing the sunset, provided we have one! Sunsets are beautiful, I think we can all agree, but they are also notoriously difficult to capture. So in this class we will be looking at a few different techniques of how to capture those sunsets so you never have to load up your sunset photos and feel disapointed ever again.
We'll be looking at a few different techniques such as HDR, Timelapsing, exposing for the highlights, and silhouetting.
The sun will set at approximately 1630 on the date of this class. We will have time before to set up, and time after to discuss.

The focus of this two-hour structured session is "speed" and "form", i.e. capturing the essence of a subject. You will be guided to complete some "warm-up" colour and drawing exercises and prepared for doing ink and watercolour-based painting in the session. You will learn how to quickly sketch and capture multiple subjects in the garden with ink and wash technique. You will be advised to keep things rather loose and time your drawing/painting.
